IDLE HANDS: The Nuevo Pop Art

  • Jed Williams Gallery 615 Bainbridge Street Philadelphia, PA, 19147 United States (map)

Rafiq Young is a self taught artist from The Germantown section of Philadelphia who creates captive works of art through drawings and paintings of inner city heroes from his imagination, and his love for 1980’s graffiti and hip hop culture. “I will be showing a collection of paintings of my signature characters from a universe that is located deep within my imagination. Drawing inspiration from the influences of urban art growing up in Philadelphia. “

Sean Lewis is an illustrator and designer fueled by imagination, pop punk, and taco bell. Around the age of 17, with a growing interest in surrealism, he abandoned photo realism to focus on work based on dreams and day dreams. Since 2015, he’s been working on an ongoing series entitled, “Dreamscapes”. Idle Hands is his first show in nearly four years, and the first time hanging any pieces from his Dreamscapes series.

Past Shows include the 2013 William H. Ely Senior Illustration Exhibition, 2013 Art Unleashed Exhibition, and December 2013 Artist of the Month at The Transfer Station.

Tegan Belitta   An artist with an extreme eye for detail, Tegan translates her visual observations of color, light, shadow and transparency into tightly rendered images on canvas and paper. Her work breaks the boundaries of color perception, forcing the viewer to see the possibilities of color comprehension and interpretation.
She has taken courses at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and holds a BFA in Illustration from Moore College of Art and Design. She has held Adjunct Professor positions at both Moore and at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. In addition to teaching, Tegan worked as a staff graphic artist for Whole Foods Market, where she has had the pleasure of training and mentoring many young artists throughout her tenure there.
Possessing the ability to create in many mediums, Tegan prefers oil and watercolor, and outshines in portraiture. She enjoys painting watercolor cult movie characters and scenes of her favorite films. She also is driven to paint hyperchromatic oil portraits with a pop surrealism twist. Her busy schedule is split between teaching, her personal art, commissions and raising her two young children.”
