Painted - Paint - Painting
A Group Exhibition
July 7 - August 31, 2017
Gross McCleaf Gallery is pleased to present Painted-Paint-Painting, an exhibition featuring the breadth and depth of the Gross McCleaf roster with a select few invited artists. In our mission to bring the best and most diverse painting to the Philadelphia community, Gross McCleaf will be open all summer and exhibiting works from pillars of the Philadelphia art community and younger faces beginning their professional careers.
The gallery is featuring a selection of works from the past season and previewing the upcoming exciting 2017/2018 season! Included are paintings by longstanding Gross McCleaf stalwarts such as Christine Lafuente, Martha Armstrong, and Douglas Martenson (all scheduled for solos in 2017/2018); as well as works by artists who just debuted at GMG this past year - notably, Mariel Capanna, Ted Walsh, and Leigh Werrell. The show explores a range and variety of modes of expression from Larry Francis' unique views of Philadelphia to the Maine-inspired aerial landscapes of Alex Tyng and the nostalgic figure paintings of Perky Edgerton. Naomi Chung's vibrant florals verge on abstraction, as do the mysterious, mystical "houses" of Mark Green, who will open our fall season with a solo exhibition in September.
Gross McCleaf Gallery represents local and regional artists with a focus on contemporary painting. The gallery has been active in the Philadelphia arts community for over forty-five years, advising collectors and placing artists' work in museums throughout the greater Philadelphia region. The summer show offers a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of visually exciting artists and see the best that the Philadelphia art community has to offer.
