Dumb Love is a collection of new work from artist Mackenzie McAlpin and represents her first solo show of objects. The work is autobiographical in nature, a personal response to a wide variety of modest and or mundane objects that are representative of moments in her life and the emotions invoked by memory. The result is lovable, fragile, funny, and a little bit heartbreaking.
Mackenzie McAlpin was born in Ohio, she went to college at Ohio University where she received a Bachelors of Specialized Studies in Fine Art Photography and Retail Merchandising. She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA where she works with clay and continues to document life through the lens of a camera. When Mackenzie’s mother passed away she began to sculpt in miniature as a tribute to her mother’s practice. The hand-made aspect of these objects is an important part of this labor of love.
