On Saturday, November 3rd, craft steps out of the studio and into the heart of Philadelphia with CraftNOW Create, a hands-on exploration of craft at the Kimmel Center. All activities are FREE and family friendly. Stop by and join in at any time!

Free art activities include:

Spinning Tops with The Center for Art in Wood

The creation of these wooden tops is an easy three step process that allows artists to take as much or as little time as they want to bring to life a beautiful piece.

 

Claymation with The Clay Studio

Animate clay characters using the art of stop motion. One person or a group of people can create a story, supply voices for characters, and share your creation with the world.

 

Button Making with The Fabric Workshop and Museum

Create your own wearable message from an assortment of dyed fabrics, thread, and printed texts to cut, collage, and press the materials into souvenir buttons.

 

Fabric YoYo’s with Handcraft Workshop

Come learn the tried and true art of making yoyo embellishments. Sewing experts will be available to give you a sewing machine demonstration.

 

Nature Embroidery with Philadelphia Museum of Art

Inspired by their craft collection, Philadelphia Museum of Art will help visitors create a small masterpiece using embroidery techniques.

 

Digitizing Clay with Tyler School of Art, Temple University

Watch live demonstrations of 3D printing in clay and see forms emerge from molds that were digitally fabricated.

 

Glass Blowing Studio Tours with The University of the Arts

Watch a video of the UArts glass studio from the comfort of the Kimmel Center – and then head next door to see everything up close. Escorted tours leave every half hour.

 

Handmade Jewelry with Wayne Art Center

Cathy Darlington will conduct a make-and-take with metal jewelry. Go home with a brand new piece of jewelry that you made for yourself!

 

Wooden Toy Making with Wharton Esherick Museum

Create your own classic folk-art toys! Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about woodworking techniques with hand tools and to make and take their own pieces.
