Textile artist and contemporary quilter Gerri Spilka, and Dolores Poacelli, who works with aluminum and acrylic among other materials, are both Philadelphia-based artists that create bold graphic compositions, with color, shape, texture, and a deliberate assembly of pieces.
The arrangement, placement and interactions of shapes, colors, and specific materials, seem to be the foundation of these artist's processes; what Poacelli describes as “a process of intuitive selection.” Pieces are not only used by these artists as an informative design and construction element, but as the necessary components to full expression, and completion of their “pieces” of work.
