Traditionally, the pilgrimage site is the impetus for a long, arduous journey, ultimately fulfilled at the end of the trek. Can the journey's struggle become self-contained in the site? When the site fails to fulfill, is the voyage retroactively deflated, emptied out, hollowed or, does the journey contain the fulfillment? “The” presupposes the voyage without destination. The excursion takes center stage, and the experience of the journey propels the journey. The word "the" acts as the launch pad for a journey; discovery through roaming, bumping, caressing, and tumbling perhaps becomes more important than arriving at the final destination. Though the pursuit of an ending can often be the initiator, “The” is what happens when the peregrination subsumes the carrot.
