Talk: Debi Cornwall - Oh, Snap!

  • Philadelphia Photo Arts Center 1400 North American Street / Suite 103 Philadelphia, PA, 19122 United States (map)

Debi Cornwall Gallery Talk and Discussion. Cornwall will discuss her exhibition, Debi Cornwall / Welcome to Camp America, a vivid and disorienting glimpse into the U.S. Naval Station in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba and its growing diaspora, through photographs, once-classified government documents, and first-person accounts.

Debi Cornwall is a conceptual documentary artist who returned to visual expression in 2014 after a 12-year career as a civil rights lawyer. Her work examines American power and identity in the post-9/11 era through photographs, archives, text, and sound.

This exhibition is made possible by the generous support of The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Oh, Snap! is a program created by in response to the interest among local women to come together, share stories and learn about photography in a safe, non-judgmental space. Self-identifying women from the neighborhood and the larger community are welcomed to attend. You don’t have to sign up. You don’t have to pay. You come when you can. PPAC welcomes you to Oh Snap! where we make friends and photographs.

Oh, Snap! meets on the third Saturday of each month, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm.

PPAC hopes that Oh, Snap! will bring together women of diverse backgrounds and experiences. The activities will develop according to the interests of its participants, but it’s safe to predict that you will learn photo basics, share photo tips, learn from photo professionals, and make your own photographs.
