Professional Practice: Crafting an Artist Statement

  • Fleisher Art Memorial 719 Catharine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19147 United States (map)

Instructor: Zoe Cohen
This workshop is free and open to artists of all levels. Registration is required. Registration opens Monday, May 14 at 8:00 a.m.

A clear and well-written artist statement is crucial for communicating about your work to other people. It’s also an amazing tool for reflecting and gaining insight into your own work. But it’s not easy! Come get started on an artist statement, or get constructive feedback on a draft from your peers, in a supportive and relaxed setting.

This workshop will include a discussion of the various uses, contexts, and audiences for artist statements, and an overview of best practices. Through a series of prompts and structured response processes, participants will generate content for an insightful and meaningful artist statement, and receive useful, thoughtful feedback on your materials from other artists.

Zoe Cohen is a visual artist producing drawings, sculptures, installations, and public participatory projects within a research-driven process.
