Ways of Seeing the Political: Two Aesthetic Traditions

A gallery talk by Andrew T. Lamas,
professor at University of Pennsylvania

July 19, 2018 - 7:00 - 8:30pm

There are two traditions of political art (or, two ways of making art politically)—the one that everyone knows and the other (better) one. In this fiftieth anniversary year of the global uprisings of 1968, we will consider the artistic challenge of affirming humanity and negating that which negates us. A rapid tour across the history of radical art will be conducted, and case studies of two Philadelphia artists will be presented. A discussion will follow the talk—unless a protest erupts during the presentation.

Tickets are FREE for DVAA members and $10 for non-members
