Drawing as closeness by Re:mark artist collective

  • Fringe Salon 1901 South 9th Street Philadelphia, PA, 19148 United States (map)

We have a very special event going on this Sat the 21st from 1-3pm at our salon. The current artists featured for our June/July showing (Janette Chien and Wayne Kleppe who create work as "Re:Mark") will be doing blind portrait drawings as a part of a project called "drawing actions"

Drawing as Closeness-Generating

Environment: A room, three chair

Materials: Paper, charcoal

Drawing Action: Janette and Wayne will sit back to back, with Janette facing the wall. There will be a single empty chair facing Wayne. Wayne invites viewers to sit in the empty chair across from him and participate in a conversation. When a participant sits down, Wayne will prompt a conversation using questions from Paul Thek's Teaching Notes and Dr. Arthur Aron's Task Slips for Closeness-Generating Procedure, otherwise known as 36 Questions to Generate Intimacy.

As the two converse, Janette will draw a portrait of the participant based on the conversation she overhears. Janette is not permitted to see the participant. The participant is not allowed to engage Janette. The participant can choose to leave his/her information so his/her portrait can be mailed to him/her.

...portraits will not take more than 10 mins time to create. this will be a mind expanding experience for anyone who chooses to participate!
