Encaustic: Three Artists Meet
Jill Cucci SmithBrenda Howell, and Sandra Koberlein
August 8th - 22nd

Opening Reception: First Friday Aug 10th, 6-8pm

Curated by Jill Cucci Smith, Three Artists Meet is an invitational show that showcases a variety of ways of working with the ancient medium of encaustic.

Regional artists Jill Cucci-Smith, Brenda Howell, and Sandra Koberleineach use encaustic and other media to express their passion for mark making, color and texture. All three represent decades of wrestling with this fickle but incredibly versatile medium.

The process of painting with encaustic involves melted bee’s wax, damar resin (crystallized tree sap), and heat. It can be used alone for its luminous and translucent qualities or colored with pigments. This form of painting has been traced as far back as the 5th century BCE. This is the first exhibit at DVAA solely devoted to encaustic work.

Meet the artists at DVAA Gallery II opening on Friday August 10 from 6-8pm.
