Priscilla Bohlen

"I work in acrylic with matte medium on canvas. I like to work in a series. Recently, my series are several large canvases hung to-
gether end to end. Yet, each canvas can stand alone. The images are recognizable as vegetation or landscape, but are abstracted, reflecting my own reality. I am inspired by nature, and by my plein air paintings to create art, in my studio, that is different from anything I have seen before.
I am influenced by my previous background as a textile designer as well as by previous generations of artists. My mother was a visual artist and my grandmother knitted dresses for her business, ‘The Franklin Shop’, in Bryn Mawr. Painting is a way to share my love of the interplay of color, shapes, and paint. It is also an adventure that I like to ‘change up’, working full reign with my tools. I search for mood and drama, to create a positive response. The painting dictates what it needs and the painting tells me when it is finished."

Atria Center City is a senior living residency located in the museum district of Philadelphia. The recently renovated and expanded facilities offer the best of both worlds for older people: a lively downtown residence with the comforts of home. DVAA is partnering with Atria to present several exhibitions throughout the year featuring the artwork of DVAA members. Each exhibition will showcase several artworks from two to three DVAA members and run for approximately six weeks. Atria will host a public opening reception for each exhibition. Soon, DVAA will have a rolling call for proposals for this exhibition opportunity.
