Places That Are Both Strange And Familiar

March 14th - April 6th

Opening Reception, March 14th, 6PM - 9PM

Spillway Collective presents Places That Are Both Strange And Familiar, an exhibition of works by Mark Basco and Leon Wen Xu.

Places That Are Both Strange And Familiar explores the deep-seated imagery of community, nostalgia and gentrification. The two artists’ structures and scenarios were sought and constructed through their current visual language using symbols and scenes drawn from the changes on the horizon in their environment.

Pulling from outside sources incorporating colors, shapes and textures from external conventional materials manifests into the universal language touching on subjects of gentrification and self identity.

Through examining the process of change - patterns and portals, spaces and scenes, memories and moments - these pieces question if symbols suggest innovation or destruction of old tradition.
