Gallery Talk & Closing Reception
Featuring Stephanie Bursese and Kirk McCarthy in conversation
Sunday, April 14, 2019
4:00- 5:00pm

Join us at Vox Populi on Sunday, April 14th from 4:00-5:00pm for a gallery talk and artist - led tour exploring the exhibitions 'Waiting Room by Stephanie Bursese and 'Topos Gnosis' by Kirk McCarthy. Directly after the talk we will celebrate the final day of our spring exhibitions, cocktails and light refreshments will be served.

////Waiting Room is an installation by Stephanie Bursese that includes a physical gallery space at Vox Populi and a durational text piece that will be created over the course of the exhibition and be published on the Vox Populi website. The following text is the first piece of writing in this series.

7/8 is a very frustrating fraction. There is a lot of writing about the number 7 and how perfect it is. About how many people thought it was the ideal number. But there isn’t as much writing about the number 8. Though, this is also heralded by some as a mystical number, it’s more binding and foggy than 7.
The number 8 looks a lot like the symbol for infinity and it draws some of it’s magic from this proximity. What does it look like to approach infinity, see it up ahead, and pull back?

///Kirk McCarthy‘s new work Topos Gnosis engages with the fluidity of landscape in complicated times, and the environment as metaphor for states of consciousness. The gallery is constellated by amorphous islands upon which handmade, natural, surreal, precious and not so precious mountain/landscape-like objects are staged. Other forms multitask as topographies, destination, and site. At play are the principals of Zen gardens, in which the design of space and the objects within it reflect and expand the spatial aspects of the mind.
