This body of work explores the relationship between truth and fiction, representation and abstraction, reality and unreality, day and night, mass and line,

as well as light and dark. To engage linguistically with the themes of this work Lanfranco has written poetry that ruminates about the dualistic nature of life

and living. The notion that all existing things are inseparable, and exist in an order of contradictory positions, evokes the ancient Chinese principle of Yin

and Yang - a perspective of interconnectedness that is also found in other cultural philosophies and scientific theories such as Buddhism and Quantum

Physics. The interaction between opposites produces harmony through complementary balance. Shadow needs light to exist. The dynamic equilibrium

between self and other, as well as presence and absence extends this metaphor for inter-connectedness. Six mystical landscapes including:

“Between Sound and Silence” form a central component of the exhibition. Smaller portrait paintings of mythical hybrid figures also feature prominently in this exhibition, as do abstracted portraits of couples that reveal the tension and inter-connectedness through use of form, color, and composition. Without light, shadow appears as

an empty hole. And without shadow, light makes objects appear flat. Like Yin and Yang, light needs shadow and vice versa. Lanfranco’s work uses vivid color

in her work, in pursuit of a romantic and visionary interpretation of nature. The idiosyncratic and poetic approach is used symbolically to delve into concepts

of relationships, growth, and reflection.
