What can a city wide, voluntary artist survey explain the habits and characteristics of Philadelphia’s visual artists and the art economy? What patterns, relationships and correlations emerge from more than 449 respondents answering 70 questions, delivering more than 30,000 points of data?

The Philly Artist Census was a survey conducted in 2018 by Philly Stewards. Our goal was to establish a big picture of the resources, challenges and livelihoods of practicing visual artists in Philadelphia. After a months long outreach campaign, our data was filtered and assessed by quantitative data analyst Alec Ricciuti, who has crafted an extensive report with substantial findings, maps, and graphs.
Among the many points of data, we found compelling evidence on:

-- What % of artists make a living from their art?
-- Where do successful artists live and gather?
-- How does being a member of an art collective relate to the likelihood of career achievement?
-- How much artwork is for sale?
-- Where is most art bought and sold?
-- Where are different media practiced or popular?

Philly Stewards are proud to deliver an in-depth review of the report at The Clay Studio at 12pm. This Philly Tech Week Event is limited to 40 seats, RSVPs to be seated first. Wheelchair Accessible.

The event will also be livecast, for those who cannot attend in person. (check back for link)
