Free & Open to the Public
Art Sanctuary, 628 S 16th St., Philadelphia, PA 19146

On Saturday, June 22, Art Sanctuary in partnership with the African American Museum in Philadelphia invites you to join us for an free art talk on the Art Sanctuary’s current exhibition, Lavett Ballard: Reclaiming Her Time. Ballard will be joined in discussion with Dr. Brittany Webb, Curator of the John Rhoden Collection at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Reclaiming Her Time traces critical themes throughout Ballard’s oeuvre, recalling lost histories of African American women and embracing these narratives on their own terms. Through the use of reclaimed wooden fence panels and mixed media collage, Ballard fashions the artist as archivist. The fence, both boundary and barrier, brings to the fore questions of place and periphery. This body of work becomes a testimony to pasts not yet spoken and futures still unfolding.

This event will take place in the Art Sanctuary gallery space located at 628 S. 16th Street.
