Summer Whimsy

  • Jed Williams Gallery 615 Bainbridge Street, 19147 (map)

Come see emerging as well as established artists' work, from paintings to sculpture to zines! JWG is putting on a show for Summer with art showcasing some notable artists from its previous roster such as Sofya Mirvis (painting/mixed media), Anna Cherniahivsky (photography/mixed media) Rosalind Bloom (painting), Rachel Udell (sculpture/prints), Liz Krick (illustration) along with newer faces like Matt Catrino (illustration), Hanna Vogel( sculpture) and Katie Haegele (zines). The exhibition is co-curated by Ruth Schanbacher and features a number of the same artists who were recently in a show at The Basement in East Falls, Philadelphia.
With this upcoming exhibit, JWG moves from the neopop consumer critique/ street art vibe of the May/June Joshua Ruggeri show, to placing a curatorial emphasis on dreamlike visions of alternate artistic realities, symbols and ciphers charged with an undercurrent of play and whimsy, yet tinged with a component of psychological risk. Notable JWG artist Sofya Mirvis mixes a dreamy yet concretely illustrative feel with emotionally charged ciphers alluding to childhood and innocence while factories belch pollution in the background.

Curated by Jed Williams and Ruth Schanbacher, this exhibition runs from June 22nd to July 13th. There will also be a closing réception July 12th from 5pm-7pm,
