THE LITTLE GALLERY
8617 GERMANTOWN AVE., CHESTNUT HILL, PHILADELPHIA, PA 19118 215-601-4023

The Little Gallery will be featuring the work of Betty Sherman in July, primarily silkscreens that she produced in the early 1970’s at Tyler School of Art, but also a few oil and watercolor paintings.

Betty (Cantor) Sherman, née Betty Ruth Katz, was born in Philadelphia in 1932. After graduating from the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Betty enrolled in the Philadelphia College of Art on scholarship, took art appreciation and philosophy courses at The Barnes Foundation, and then enrolled in the Tyler School of Art, graduating in 1974 with a BFA. During her years at Tyler she created an impressive body of work which remained largely unexhibited except in her home and in the homes of family and friends.

Betty taught art at Miquon School in Conshohocken and later spent many years as the middle-school art teacher at the Springside School in Chestnut Hill, now Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH).

We will have an opening reception on the evening of July 5th from 5 to 8 coinciding with Chestnut Hill’s First Friday event. We hope you’ll stop by.
