Martha Clippinger's exhibition, “Translations,” explores the vocabulary of color, shape, and form. The artist works in a variety of media, including painted wood constructions, quilts, and ceramics.

In 2014, Clipping began an ongoing collaboration with Oaxacan artisans, Licha González Rúiz and Agustín Contreras López, who transform her designs into weavings. These “tapetes,” alongside her other works, blend contemporary ideas and cultural traditions while blurring the line between craft and fine art. Changing one form into another, the definition of translation, is integral to Clippinger's visual language.

Join Clippinger at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens for a pay-what-you-wish Opening Reception on Friday, September 13, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
