Have you ever wandered into a commercial art gallery, looked around and thought, "where the hell am I?" Don't worry - a lot of us have!
Commercial art galleries, with their traditionally white walls, assortment of different works of Art and still, almost reverential, silence can be incredibly imposing spaces! Philly Stewards is excited to host the event "Where the Hell Am I?" along with Fleisher/Ollman Gallery this Thursday, June 15th, from 6p-8p.
Beginning with a conversation between Alex Conner, Alex Baker (Director of F/o) and Claire Iltis (Associate Director of F/O) we will explore the nuts-and-bolts of how a commercial art gallery operates day-to-day in Philadelphia. This includes how a commercial Art Gallery pays its bills, works with Collectors, chooses artists for its roster, plans out Art Fairs to exhibit at and (most importantly!) represents Art that it believes in and believes its audience will be passionate about.
Afterwards there will be a Q&A to ask any question you may have ever had about the operations of commercial art galleries. We will be offering the opportunity to either ask your question out loud or to write it down and have our panel answer it anonymously!
Note: The doors to the building and the elevator close to the public at 7pm; please keep this in mind if you plan to arrive after the event begins.
