Telling Stories with Clay: The Vessel as Canvas & Archive

This workshop explores the power of narrative images on clay and how you can utilize 3D printed elements and drawings to construct a narrative image that informs both the picture and form. The use of virtual artifacts, drawing and transfer methods with stencils as well as the use of underglaze and glaze as paint are covered. Ceramic 3D printing, handbuilding, wheel throwing, and press molding techniques are demonstrated to produce sculptural vessels with dynamic compositions. All levels welcome with some clay experience. (Please note: this workshop is Saturday from 10am-5pm & Sunday from 10am-4pm with a 1 hour lunch.)

Jessica Brandl attended Concordia University for drawing and painting. She then attended The Kansas City Art Institute to study ceramics and art history earning her BFA. Brandl received her MFA from The Ohio State University and is the recipient of awards including the Fergus Scholarship Award, and Fergus Installation Grant. She has been awarded numerous residencies including The Armory Center in Palm Beach, FL, the Watershed Center for Ceramic Art in Newcastle, ME, the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT and was recently awarded a residency at the Ceramics Program Office for the Arts at Harvard in Allston, MA.
